June 5 Monday - Surgery Update

The surgeons just came out to give us an update on how the surgery went.  They were pleased with how things went.  Their primary goal of removing the tumour was successful,  Ava is doing fine so far,  and they were able to reattach the bowel.  We are so very very thankful for these answered prayers.  The surgeons did find more spreading of the disease than they had expected but were able to remove as many swollen lymph nodes as safely possible.  The remaining cancerous lesions and cells will be treated with chemotherapy which will begin after Danielle has had a chance to recover.  The surgeons were optimistic that she should be feeling much better with the tumour removed; she should now be able to eat much easier, which will allow her to recover from the anemia and have much improved nourishment for both herself and little Ava.

The surgeons were clear about the fact that aside from being very careful to not disturb the uterus during surgery,  the pregnancy did not change any aspect of the treatment Danielle has received.  This is comforting to us as we know there is no second-guessing about what choices were made before and during the surgery.  Ava will be monitored closely in the upcoming hours and for now her heartbeat is strong and steady.  Truly an example of Living Grace for us today, praise the Lord.

The road ahead will continue to be difficult and hard - to recover from surgery, to gain back strength, to take up chemical assault against the cancer that remains, to safely carry Ava until delivery.  There is still so much uncertain.

But there are some things that are certain, and that has been made ever more clear to us today.  The Lord's love for us is certain, and He does listen to the prayers of the multitudes out there.  Please praise and thank the Lord with us tonight for a successful surgery, and continue to pray for renewed health and a blessing on further treatment.

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord,
'He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust"
Psalm 91:1-2
